A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas continues to hold in Gaza for a third consecutive day on Sunday, laying the groundwork for the anticipated release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees. This truce coincides with U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming address to the Israeli parliament, known as the Knesset.

As President Trump prepares for his visit to Israel, he is set to participate in discussions at a world leaders’ summit in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, aimed at seeking solutions to end the hostilities in Gaza. Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, alongside Jared Kushner, spoke at a rally in Tel Aviv on Saturday, encouraging the Israeli public to remain hopeful for the release of hostages and a permanent ceasefire.
The United States, in collaboration with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, has been instrumental in brokering this initial ceasefire agreement, emphasizing mutual interests that facilitate the release of hostages while also negotiating the terms for Palestinian prisoner exchanges.
