Gauff vs. Sabalenka: A Clash of Tennis Titans at the French Open Final

Coco Gauff, the No. 2 seed, is set to compete against top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in what promises to be an exciting women’s final at the French Open on Saturday. Gauff, a 21-year-old American tennis sensation, secured her spot in the final by decisively defeating France’s Lois Boisson with a score of 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals on June 5, 2025.

This final marks the second time in Gauff’s career that she will compete in the French Open final, having previously been the runner-up to Iga Swiatek in 2022. The upcoming match is particularly notable as it will only be the second instance in the last 30 years where the top two seeded players face each other in the women’s final at Roland Garros.

Gauff and Sabalenka will be meeting again in a Grand Slam final, having previously faced off in the 2023 U.S. Open, where Gauff triumphed to claim her first Grand Slam title at just 19 years old. Sabalenka earned her place in the final by defeating Swiatek in a hard-fought semifinal match with scores of 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0.

Additionally, Gauff made headlines last summer at Roland Garros, where she became the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the Olympics since Venus Williams in 2000. In a historic moment, she also had the honor of carrying the flag for Team USA during the Olympics’ opening ceremony, making her the first tennis player to do so.

With her trajectory in the sport, Gauff’s determination and skill provide a hopeful narrative for the future of American tennis as she aims for victory against Sabalenka on Saturday.
