With this victory, Florida (7-5) not only secured a winning season, but they also marked a significant moment by defeating FSU (2-10) for the first time since 2021, leading the Seminoles to their first 10-loss season in half a century.

The Gators dominated the game from the outset, with their defense wreaking havoc on FSU’s offense, recovering five fumbles and recording an impressive eight sacks while limiting the Seminoles to just 239 total yards. The highlight of the night for Florida came early in the fourth quarter, when senior tailback Trevor Etienne sprinted 65 yards for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 24-3. Etienne finished the game with 99 rushing yards on 10 carries, surpassing 3,000 career rushing yards.

Freshman quarterback Jaden Lagway played a key role in the victory, completing 14 of 22 passes for 133 yards with two touchdowns, becoming the first true freshman Gators quarterback to win in Tallahassee. Lagway’s strong performance included a 4-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, extending the Gators’ lead to 14-0. The Gators’ initial scoring drive was facilitated by a strip sack from defensive end Tyreak Sapp, demonstrating the formidable presence of Florida’s defense throughout the match.

Despite FSU managing to put points on the board with a 39-yard field goal and a late 2-yard touchdown run, the Gators maintained control of the game. Florida outscored FSU 14-0 in points off turnovers, showcasing their efficiency and resilience.

Moreover, the defense’s resurgence in the last three games, culminating in 18 sacks, reveals a promising trend as they look forward to a bowl game appearance.

Looking ahead, the Gators are eyeing potential postseason destinations such as the Gasparilla Bowl, Gator Bowl, and Music City Bowl, providing fans with optimistic expectations heading into the off-season as the team continues to build momentum. Overall, the Gators have proven themselves resilient and capable, and their latest performance could turn the tide for the future of Florida football.
