Gamescom, the largest video game event in Europe, is set to take place in Cologne, Germany from August 20 to 24. The event brings together gamers, developers, industry professionals, and journalists to explore upcoming games.
While E3 was the leading gaming event in the United States for many years, it has never surpassed Gamescom, which has consistently been one of the biggest gaming shows worldwide—especially now that E3 is no longer active. Following June’s Summer Game Fest, Gamescom is among the final events in 2024 showcasing the highly anticipated games scheduled for release later this year and in 2025.
Last year, Gamescom attracted 320,000 attendees in Cologne. A significant portion of these visitors included members of the public eager to try out games presented by a range of industry creators, from independent developers to major publishers.
CNET will be present at Gamescom to cover the numerous games on display, with fans also able to catch sneak peeks during showcases like Opening Night Live. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, this trailer-centric event has already confirmed several upcoming titles, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Dune: Awakening, among others.
Opening Night Live will kick off on August 20, launching Gamescom, which continues through August 24. The showcase begins at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CEST at the Koelnmesse convention center. A preshow will start half an hour earlier.
For those unable to attend in person, Opening Night Live will be streamable on Gamescom’s website, via YouTube, and on Geoff Keighley’s Twitch account. A written live blog will also be available to cover the new trailers as they are released.
While some of the games to be highlighted during the 2-hour showcase have been announced, including titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Little Nightmares 3, additional surprises are expected. Developers have hinted at more announcements, such as those from the creators of the upcoming game Towerborne.
