Gamers in a Frenzy Over Limited-Edition PS5 Pro: Resellers Drive Prices Sky High!

The release of Sony’s limited-edition PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary edition has caused quite a stir among gamers, with some resorting to loans to secure their purchase. Priced at $999.99, the console became available early Thursday morning, but consumers faced a lengthy digital queue. Many waited over an hour only to find that it quickly sold out, as resellers were also eager to claim the sought-after item.

Resellers have since listed the console on eBay, with prices soaring beyond $4,000. To back their listings, they have included sales receipts, noting that the product will not ship until November 21. One particularly audacious seller is attempting to sell a unit for $10,000, although eBay’s Terapeak tool indicates no sales have been made at that price. Other resellers have started their listings at around $3,000.

The scarcity of the product is significant, as Sony only produced 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary edition. This number cleverly coincides with the launch date of the original PlayStation console in Japan in 1994.

Despite the scalpers, some consumers successfully purchased the console early on Thursday through Sony’s website. Additionally, Sony has begun accepting preorders for the PS5 Pro, which remain available on the PlayStation Direct site.

The PS5 Pro is set for a Nov. 7 launch, but its price point of $699 and the controversial removal of the disc drive may have deterred some potential buyers. Further reviews are anticipated as the launch date approaches.
