The undefeated Washington State Cougars are preparing to host the San Jose State Spartans for a college football matchup on Friday night.
The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. PT at Gesa Field at Martin Stadium in Pullman, coinciding with Family Weekend.
Fans can catch the game nationally on The CW, with local airings in Seattle on ARC Seattle – KUNS channel 51, Spokane on KSKN channel 22, and in the Yakima-Tri-Cities area on CW9. In Portland, viewers can tune in to KRCW channel 32.
Listeners can access the game on the Washington State Sports Network, which covers regions from Alaska to British Columbia to Oregon and throughout Washington state. The broadcasts, featuring pre-game and post-game shows, can also be streamed worldwide via the Varsity Network app and Sirius XM Satellite radio. Both teams enter the game with a 3-0 record, with Washington State competing in the Pac-12 Conference and San Jose State in the Mountain West Conference.
The Cougars have enjoyed a robust start to the 2024 season, beginning with a commanding 70-30 victory over Portland State. They followed this with a 37-16 win against Texas Tech and a thrilling 24-19 victory against the University of Washington in the Apple Cup last Saturday. Quarterback John Mateer set a record for rushing yards by a Washington State quarterback with 197 yards against Texas Tech, contributing to the team’s 301 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The defense also played a key role, forcing four turnovers. In the Apple Cup, Mateer scored two rushing touchdowns and the defense made a decisive fourth-down stop at the one-yard line.
Last season, Washington State finished with a 5-7 record overall, including 2-7 in Pac-12 games. Head coach Jake Dickert, in his third full season with an 18-16 career record, has been influential in the team’s progress.
The Cougars’ recent victory in the Apple Cup was significant, marking only their second win over the Huskies in the last four years. The historic matchup was notable for being the earliest in the season between the two schools and and attracted a crowd of 57,567 at Lumen Field in Seattle, with the defense achieving a rare feat by limiting Washington to under 20 points for just the second time since 1999.
