Gallos Blancos Set for Fresh Start in Apertura 2025: Can They Make the Playoffs?

Gallos Blancos de Querétaro will debut in the Apertura 2025 this Friday against Xolos de Tijuana, aiming to surpass the 20 points earned in the previous Clausura and secure a spot in the liguilla. This new season begins on July 11, presenting a fresh opportunity for the team, which hasn’t reached the final stage since the Apertura 2019.

Their first match will take place at Estadio Caliente, where they will face Tijuana, led by new coach Sebastián “Loco” Abreu. The game is set for 21:05 hours (Central Mexico Time) and will be exclusively broadcasted on Tubi, which has acquired the rights to Caliente TV.

Since their last playoffs appearance, Gallos Blancos has only participated in two repechajes against Santos and Necaxa, both unsuccessful. Under the guidance of coach Benjamín Mora, the team will play 17 matches this season—eight at home and nine away—and aims to build a competitive project.

To strengthen the squad, Gallos has introduced three new players: forward Jesús Hernández, a former youth talent with European experience, alongside goalkeepers Luis Villegas and José Hernández. The registration period remains open until September 5, allowing for potential additional signings.

Historically, Gallos has struggled in Tijuana, with their last victory there occurring during the Clausura 2023 when they won 1-2, thanks to goals from Zúñiga and Sepúlveda. As they embark on this new challenge, the team is determined to break that streak and start the tournament on a strong note.

This season holds the promise of optimism for Gallos Blancos, as they aim to reclaim their place among Mexico’s top teams. The potential for new talent and a renewed strategy offers hope for a successful run in the Apertura.
