Gaffigan’s Roasts Shine at Al Smith Dinner: A Night of Laughter and Jabs!

Comedian Jim Gaffigan brought humor to the Al Smith charity dinner, joking about the unique seating arrangement that included both Donald Trump and New York Attorney General Letitia James, who recently won a significant civil fraud case against him for $454 million. Gaffigan quipped that the situation felt like a scene out of Family Feud.

During his routine at the New York City event on Thursday night, Gaffigan made light of the “prestige, the wealth, the allegations” in the room. He acknowledged James’s presence and joked, “she had a great year…she’s watching all of you.” James smiled as Gaffigan noted her proximity to Trump.

Gaffigan also referenced Trump’s controversial remarks concerning migrants and pets, eliciting gasps from the audience when he recalled Trump’s claims from the debates. “This is the second time grabbing a kitty has been part of a campaign issue,” he said, prompting a smirk from Trump.

The comedian continued to roast several politicians present, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mayor Eric Adams, who is facing criminal charges. Gaffigan humorously introduced Adams as being “brought to you by Turkish Airlines.”

In response, Trump countered with jabs at Gaffigan’s SNL role as Tim Walz, suggesting his tenure would be brief, and alluded to the absence of both Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris at the event. Trump referenced Harris’s past remark about being in Hong Kong during a significant historical event and expressed his disappointment at her absence, while also remarking on her distinctive laugh.

Harris opted out of attending the dinner to campaign in Wisconsin but appeared via video, where she humorously addressed Trump’s refusal to acknowledge the 2020 election results and his critical comments about Detroit.
