Gabrielle Union, actress and mother, recently shared her poignant journey to motherhood, reflecting on the challenges she faced with infertility. The wife of NBA star Dwyane Wade has been candid about her struggles with miscarriages, revealing that she endured “eight to nine” heartbreaking losses while trying to conceive. In an earlier interview with TIME Magazine, she expressed her deep desire to experience pregnancy and the societal pressures that compounded her feelings of shame regarding her inability to give birth.

Union emphasized how much she yearned for the experience of carrying a child, stating, “I wanted the experience of being pregnant…to watch my body expand and shift to accommodate this miracle inside me.” She acknowledged the stigma surrounding women who, for various reasons, do not have children, and shared her frustrations at being judged for her situation.

After extensive attempts that included rounds of IVF, Gabrielle and Dwyane decided to pursue surrogacy as the path to parenthood. Although it wasn’t their first choice, they welcomed their daughter, Kaavia Wade, in 2018. Since then, the family of three has kept a relatively low profile, enjoying life away from the glaring spotlight.

Today, Kaavia has graduated kindergarten and brings joy to her parents, embodying the love and resilience that shaped her journey into the world. Gabrielle Union’s story serves as an inspiring testament to hope and perseverance, reminding many that the path to parenthood can be fraught with challenges, but love and family can emerge in unexpected ways.
