Gabe Davis returns to Bills, chasing a comeback

The Buffalo Bills have re-signed wide receiver Gabe Davis, agreeing to terms on Tuesday. The 26-year-old veteran originally broke into Buffalo’s lineup in 2020 as a fourth-round pick and spent his first four NFL seasons with the Bills.

Davis’s peak came in the 2022 season when he posted 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns, highlighted by a four-touchdown performance in an overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. After signing a three-year deal with the Jaguars ahead of the 2024 season, Davis was slowed by a knee injury and produced his least productive stretch, finishing with 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns before Jacksonville released him in May.

He is expected to begin with Buffalo on the practice squad as he recovers from last season’s torn meniscus, with the aim of working his way back to the active roster. The Steelers also showed interest, with two visits after his release by Jacksonville, including a visit on Tuesday.

What this means for Buffalo: Davis brings a proven big-play component and playoff experience back to a receiving corps that values depth and versatility. If he can regain full health, he could provide a valuable option for Josh Allen and add a familiar presence to Buffalo’s offense.

Summary: Davis’s return to Buffalo offers a potential low-cost, high-reward addition as he rehabs from the knee injury, returning to a system with which he is already comfortable and a team that already knows his capabilities in big moments.

Positive spin: There is optimism that Davis can regain his 2022 form and contribute meaningfully to Buffalo’s passing game, providing a reliable target in multiple phases of the offense while he continues to recover.
