Gabby Thomas has completed her redemption tour by winning gold in the women’s 200-meter final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two-time Olympian clocked a time of 21.83 seconds, demonstrating her impressive speed after securing a bronze medal in the same event at the Tokyo Olympics.
In a thrilling race at Stade de France, Thomas surged ahead of Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred in the final stretch to claim the top spot.
Originally from the Austin area, Thomas graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in May 2023. She previously earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, where she became the Ivy League’s first NCAA sprint national champion in the indoor 200-meter race during the 2017-18 season.
This victory marks Thomas’s third Olympic medal overall and her second individual medal, adding to her bronze from Tokyo and a silver as part of the U.S. women’s 4×100 relay team. As reported, she is expected to compete in the relay later this week in Paris.
Additionally, the United States secured another medal in the women’s 200-meter event, with Thomas’ teammate Brittany Brown finishing in third place, edging out Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith by just 0.02 seconds. Julien Alfred took home the silver medal with a time of 22.09 seconds.
