As in previous years, three talented players from the Barça Academy Residency Arizona are training with FC Barcelona’s youth teams to assess their performance and attitude. This year’s chosen players are Graham Ford, Makai Wells, and Jorge Padilla, all of whom had notable participation in last year’s MLS playoffs, a competition that continues to gain prestige and competitive depth each season.
These young athletes are considered significant prospects for the future of soccer. Graham Ford is currently training with the U16A team, having left a strong impression during his last visit to Barcelona for a training camp. As a left-footed central midfielder, he excels in maintaining possession, recovering the ball, and demonstrating a deep understanding of the game.
Makai Wells is also in the U16A squad, marking his first experience in Barcelona. The right winger, who just joined Barça Academy Pro Arizona last year, impresses with his passing skills and excels in one-on-one situations.
Meanwhile, Jorge Padilla is featured on the U19B team and is experiencing Barcelona for the first time after dedicating four years to the Arizona academy. His outstanding performance in the MLS U16 playoffs paved the way for his trip to Europe, where he can learn from peers at a similar level. As a right-sided midfielder, he is known for his tackling ability and direct playing style, making him a significant contributor to attacking plays. His dedication and work ethic played crucial roles in earning this opportunity.
Barça Residency Arizona stands as the only Barça program in North America, having opened in 2017. With FC Barcelona coaches present to impart the club’s training methodology, the academy boasts eight soccer fields, a study center affiliated with Arizona State University, and is the sole Barça Academy participating in MLS Next, the premier youth league in the United States.
This initiative not only nurtures the potential of these young players but also strengthens the global reach and influence of FC Barcelona’s training model, promoting the development of soccer talent across North America.
