Fulton Adventist College in Sabeto has reached a significant milestone in its educational journey, officially receiving accreditation and upgrading to university status, now known as Fulton Adventist University. This upgrade was confirmed by the Fiji Higher Education Commission and marks a new chapter for the institution, which has been serving the community since 1905.
During a recent celebration event, Dr. Ronald Stone, the university head, expressed the institution’s excitement about its new identity. He emphasized the commitment to providing a holistic education that nurtures not just the mind, but also the soul and spirit of its students. “As we embrace our new identity as Fulton Adventist University, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future,” Dr. Stone stated, highlighting the institution’s focus on building on its rich heritage while addressing future challenges and opportunities.
Dr. Eci Tekuru Naisele, Director of the Fiji Higher Education Commission, commended the efforts of both staff and students in reaching this important accreditation milestone. He reflected on the institution’s history, recalling that Fulton was among the first five higher education institutions to gain full recognition and registration from the commission during the early days of its establishment.
The transition to university status comes at a time when educational institutions in Fiji are being encouraged to enhance access and improve the quality of education across the nation. This resonates with ongoing government initiatives aimed at increasing educational funding and support, such as the recent emphasis on expanding scholarships and debt relief measures for students.
With this new status, Fulton Adventist University is well-positioned to make a significant impact on the local and regional educational landscape. The upgrade not only enhances its credibility but also promises broader access to higher education opportunities for students in Fiji and the Pacific. It represents a hopeful development that reflects the institution’s dedication to delivering high-quality, transformative education, ultimately contributing to building a skilled workforce and advancing the capabilities within the region.
