A search operation is currently underway in Natchez, Mississippi, as local authorities respond to a reported sighting of Antoine Massey, one of the two remaining fugitives among ten detainees who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center earlier this month. Cal Green, the Natchez Police Chief, confirmed that a sighting was reported around 8:30 a.m. on Providence Road, prompting a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police.
Authorities initially believed that Massey could be in the area; however, Travis Patten, the Adams County Sheriff, later stated that they no longer believe he is in Natchez, indicating that while he may have been seen earlier, he has since left the vicinity. The search for Massey is heightened given his extensive criminal history, which dates back to 2007 and includes several jail escapes.
Massey’s history raises concerns, especially since he was involved in a daring escape on May 16th, after cutting off ankle monitors and climbing through a hole in the jail facility. Matt Dennis from ASAP Ankle Monitoring highlighted the severity of Massey’s actions, noting that cutting off an ankle monitor indicates a suspect’s guilt.
As the community remains vigilant, a reward of $20,000 is being offered for information leading to the capture of any of the escaped inmates. Residents are urged to stay alert and report any sightings to the FBI or local authorities, emphasizing the need for collective vigilance during this ongoing situation.
While the circumstances are serious and concerning, there remains hope that cooperation between the public and law enforcement will lead to the swift capture of the remaining fugitives and restore peace of mind to the community.
