Fubo-NBCUniversal Channel Dispute Knocks Out NBC, Fans Lose Key Games

Fubo subscribers are currently affected by a significant carriage dispute with NBCUniversal, resulting in the absence of NBC affiliates and several NBCUniversal networks. Consequently, many college football fans find themselves unable to access key games this Saturday, including matchups like Syracuse versus Notre Dame, Nebraska versus Penn State, and Washington versus UCLA. Additionally, Fubo users may miss out on the NFL game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams scheduled for Sunday night, along with various Premier League soccer matches all weekend.

In an official statement, Fubo expressed frustration over the situation, claiming that NBCUniversal has presented “egregiously above” pricing and packaging terms compared to other distributors. They contended that this disparity left subscribers with limited options—either being deprived of essential content or facing inflated costs.

On the other hand, NBCUniversal representatives accused Fubo of choosing to forgo their programming despite being offered the same terms that have been accepted by other distributors. They pointed out that Fubo has a track record of dropping multiple networks, which they argue detrimentally impacts their subscribers’ experience.

As of 5 p.m. ET on Friday, Fubo has ceased carrying NBCUniversal networks, which includes local NBC affiliates, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, MSNBC, and Telemundo Accion, among others. However, NBC-owned Peacock remains available as a standalone subscription option.

Despite the ongoing disruption, Fubo stated that they are negotiating with NBCUniversal in good faith to restore access to its channels but did not provide an estimated timeline for when this might occur. The platform currently serves 1.63 million subscribers who are left uncertain about when the service will resume.

This situation mirrors a previous dispute between YouTube TV and Disney, which lasted two weeks before an agreement was finally reached, restoring ESPN, ABC, and other channels to its subscribers. As negotiations continue, Fubo users can only hope for a swift resolution that will restore their access to NBCUniversal content.
