The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced a new “Junk Fees Rule” aimed at increasing transparency in pricing for live event tickets and hotel stays. This rule, unveiled on Monday, seeks to protect consumers from misleading pricing practices by ensuring that all costs are disclosed upfront.

The “Junk Fees Rule” specifically addresses deceptive pricing tactics that can cause surprise charges for consumers. While it does not ban specific fees or pricing methods, it mandates that companies clearly communicate the total price, inclusive of any mandatory fees, in their advertisements.
