The Florida State University (FSU) Seminoles softball team is set to host the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Tallahassee Super Regional, with the opportunity to secure a spot in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) on the line. This series marks FSU’s 12th overall Super Regional and 11th in the last 12 seasons, showcasing the program’s consistent performance under Coach Lonni Alameda.
This weekend’s matchup will take place at JoAnne Graf Field, where FSU has built a formidable home field advantage, boasting a 60-19 record in NCAA tournament play at this venue. After a 38-day hiatus from home games, FSU commenced the Tallahassee Regional with an impressive 3-1 record, outscoring their opponents 22-1, including back-to-back run-rule victories. Ashtyn Danley shone in the circle with 10 scoreless innings pitched, while Isa Torres led offensively with seven hits during the regional.
Historically, FSU has thrived when hosting Super Regionals, having advanced to the WCWS on four out of six occasions. The team is looking to capitalize on this momentum and aim for their 13th WCWS appearance. The Seminoles hold a 114-81 all-time record in the NCAA tournament, indicating their prowess in high-stakes matchups.
Thursday’s game will feature a significant storyline as two of the nation’s standout players go head-to-head: FSU’s robust offense, ranked among the best nationally, facing Texas Tech’s formidable pitching, led by Nijaree Canady. FSU previously faced Canady during the Clearwater Invitational last season, managing to score four runs against her.
If successful, the Seminoles will not only solidify their reputation but also add to their impressive season, in which they finished strong with a 49-10 record. FSU finished the regular season ranked within the top 10 of national polls and demonstrated their strength by winning nine matches against top-25 teams.
The opening game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, with subsequent games slated for Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m., if necessary. Fans can follow the action on ESPN2 and other social media platforms for updates and exclusive content.
As excitement builds around the Tallahassee Super Regional, the Seminoles are poised and ready to reclaim their spot on the national stage, illustrating a strong combination of talent, determination, and strategy.
