FRU Seeks New CEO to Lead Fiji Rugby’s 2026 Transformation

The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is actively seeking a new chief executive officer (CEO), as confirmed by FRU Board chairman John Sanday. A job advertisement for this position has recently been disseminated across various platforms. Koli Sewabu, who has been serving as the acting CEO since May, is interested in officially applying for the role. He will continue in his interim capacity until the selection process concludes later this month.

In addition to the CEO role, the FRU is also in the process of recruiting for several key positions, including chief financial officer, human resources manager, and risk compliance officer. This recruitment drive is designed to bolster the organization ahead of what is expected to be a momentous season in 2026.

This strategic recruitment initiative is part of a broader transformation designed to equip the FRU with the necessary skills and capabilities to enhance its standing as a prominent rugby organization both nationally and internationally. Sanday underscored the importance of achieving high performance standards as Fiji aspires to solidify its status as a tier-one rugby nation. The upcoming decade is viewed as a pivotal time for Fiji rugby, with opportunities for commercial growth in the international rugby landscape.

Recognizing the strength and iconic status of the Fiji Rugby brand, efforts are underway to optimize its commercial potential while ensuring the organization is well-structured to tackle future challenges. The recruitment process is being facilitated by the local company Maxumise, which aims to professionalize the search for the new leadership.

The FRU’s commitment to transformative leadership promotes a hopeful outlook for the future of Fiji rugby. This strategic initiative not only seeks to develop local talent but also aims to seize available opportunities, ensuring that the sport continues to flourish both domestically and globally.
