Nacani Boginisoko, the emerging star of the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team, has exemplified resilience through his challenging journey in rugby. The native of Naivakarauniniu, Sanima, Kadavu, who also has familial ties to Nadroga, previously worked at Lautoka Wharf to support his young family. Juggling his duties of ferrying fishermen at dawn and dusk, Boginisoko fought tirelessly to achieve his rugby aspirations with the Dominion Brothers team.

His determination and sacrifices have fueled his gratitude for the opportunity to represent Fiji in international sevens rugby—a responsibility he acknowledges requires continuous effort to maintain his spot in the team coached by Osea Kolinisau. Following a promising start to his international career, the 26-year-old is focused on enhancing his performance as the team prepares for the upcoming HSBC tournaments in Vancouver and New York.

“I’m not focused too much on my performance from Singapore and Perth since there are a number of tournaments remaining in the competition,” Boginisoko stated. He mentioned the importance of hard work, as Coach Kolinisau believes Boginisoko has not yet reached his full potential.

Head coach Kolinisau is also emphasizing the importance of consistency among the players. He dialed in on the necessity for stable performances, stating, “We cannot be talking about consistency if one week we finish in the top three and the next week we finish at the bottom.” He views this consistency as vital for fostering a championship mentality within the squad, underscoring the need for the team to cultivate a reliable play style to enhance their competitive edge in upcoming matches.

With Boginisoko’s personal dedication paired with Kolinisau’s vision for team consistency, Fiji’s rugby future appears promising as they aim for strong showings in the forthcoming legs of the HSBC series. Their commitment may well be the key to building a robust and successful national team.
