Nacani Boginisoko, a rising star of the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team, has demonstrated remarkable resilience throughout his journey in rugby. Hailing from Naivakarauniniu in Kadavu and with family ties to Nadroga, Boginisoko previously worked at Lautoka Wharf to support his young family. His routine included ferrying fishermen at dawn and dusk, all while tirelessly pursuing his rugby aspirations with the Dominion Brothers team.
His determination and sacrifices have only heightened his gratitude for the opportunity to represent Fiji on the international sevens stage. As he prepares for the upcoming HSBC tournaments in Vancouver and New York, Boginisoko recognizes the importance of continuous effort to maintain his position on a team led by coach Osea Kolinisau.
Focusing on the future, the 26-year-old expressed, “I’m not focused too much on my performance from Singapore and Perth since there are a number of tournaments remaining in the competition.” He acknowledges that hard work remains crucial, especially as Coach Kolinisau sees potential for further growth in his performance.
Coach Kolinisau has also underscored the need for consistency among players, emphasizing that the team’s performance shouldn’t fluctuate dramatically from one tournament to another. He stated, “We cannot be talking about consistency if one week we finish in the top three and the next week we finish at the bottom.” This consistent play is essential for fostering a championship mentality within the squad.
With Boginisoko’s commitment to personal growth and Kolinisau’s focus on cultivating a stable team dynamic, Fiji’s rugby future looks bright. The combined dedication of these players and coaches aims to strengthen the national squad and enhance their abilities in the forthcoming legs of the HSBC series, reinforcing the belief that dedication and teamwork will pave the way for success.
