Sixteen-year-old Jasvil Rokoro is breaking the mold this holiday season by dedicating her New Year’s Eve to refining her cricket skills at the Albert Park grounds in preparation for the upcoming U19 national trials. Hailing from Bemana-Navosa and coming from a cricket-loving family, Rokoro has made a remarkable journey in the sport, starting as a water girl for her parents’ cricket club before stepping onto the field herself.
In a relatively brief period, she has made a significant mark in Fiji’s cricket landscape, representing the nation in both the senior women’s team and the U19 team. “In 2024, I went to Bali as part of the U19 Fiji team, and then earlier this year (2025) I joined the senior women’s team. We went to New Caledonia and then hosted another tournament here in Fiji,” Rokoro reflected on her experiences.
As she prepares for the U19 national trials, Rokoro has set ambitious goals for her development and contributions to the team. “As one of the senior players for the U19, my goal is to learn as much as I can so that I can inspire my team,” she shared. She also emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “But also I will look to them to help me and show me where I can become better as a player.”
Despite cricket being a minor sport in Fiji, Rokoro’s aspirations are far-reaching. She dreams of becoming a professional cricketer and securing an overseas contract, which highlights her determination and fervor for the game. Her journey is not just about personal success; it serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for young athletes in the region, showcasing that with dedication and hard work, it is indeed possible to achieve one’s dreams in sports.
