From Waivou to Yasawa: Nancy Naivaluwaqa Redefining Fiji Island Hospitality

Nancy Naivaluwaqa, the dynamic resort manager of the Coral View Resort on Taweva Island in Yasawa, epitomizes more than three decades of commitment and passion within Fiji’s hospitality landscape. Welcoming visitors with her warm ‘bula’ smile, Nancy fosters an inviting atmosphere at the 3-star resort known for its natural beauty and sincere hospitality — making it an idyllic tropical retreat for travelers.

Hailing from Waivou Village in Rewa, Nancy embarked on her hospitality journey at the prestigious Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Her career later took her to Wakaya Island Resort, where she embraced island resort life for 15 years, interacting with diverse guests, including billionaires and celebrities. These experiences enriched her expertise in reservations, sales, and marketing, eventually leading her to manage a resort in Malolo before taking charge at Coral View Resort eight years ago.

Guiding a team of over 23 dedicated staff, Nancy strives to ensure every guest relishes their time in Fiji. Despite the picturesque setting, she acknowledges the personal challenges of island life, such as homesickness and adapting to varied guest expectations. Her advice to aspiring hospitality professionals? “Be yourself, keep smiling, and embody the hospitality hey are naturally born with. Always put God first.”

Nancy’s journey is reminiscent of other inspiring women in the Fijian hospitality industry. Highlighted during International Women’s Day celebrations, women like Irinieta Naqolo and Titilia Delaivuna Naqila have also progressed through determination, resilience, and community support. Their stories reflect a broader movement, where the intersection of passion, mentorship, and empowerment continually shapes Fiji’s tourism sector.

As Nancy Naivaluwaqa continues her impactful role on Taweva Island, her story not only embodies personal success but also stands as a beacon of hope for future generations of women leaders in hospitality, showing that genuine warmth and commitment enrich the industry and the communities it touches.
