From U19 Star to IPL Debut: Can Musheer Khan Bounce Back?

From U19 Star to IPL Debut: Can Musheer Khan Bounce Back?

Musheer Khan made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on May 29, 2025, during Qualifier 1 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Mullanpur Stadium in Chandigarh. Unfortunately, his first match in the IPL did not go as planned, resulting in a brief outing where he faced just three balls before being out for a duck due to an LBW decision by Suyash Sharma.

Despite his promising background, Musheer could not impact the game as an impact substitute. At just 20 years old, Musheer hails from a cricketing family; his brother Sarfaraz Khan has already represented India, and their father, Naushad Khan, has played a significant role in their cricket journey.

Musheer was a prominent player in the India U19 squad for the U19 World Cup in December 2023, where he excelled with 360 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 60.00, including a highest score of 131. Overall, he has participated in 14 U19 matches, scoring a total of 554 runs at an average of 61.55.

In addition to his U19 achievements, Musheer has played nine first-class matches, accumulating 716 runs at an average of 51.14 and taking eight wickets. His journey in cricket further gained attention when he broke a long-standing record by becoming the youngest Mumbai player to score a century in a Ranji Trophy final, previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

This season, Punjab Kings acquired Musheer Khan for INR 30 lakh, signaling the team’s faith in his potential despite this unfortunate debut match. Musheer’s journey is still in its early stages, and with his talent and background, there is hope that he will make a significant impact in future matches.

This story highlights not only Musheer’s short setback in his IPL debut but also points to a promising career ahead, filled with potential opportunities in the world of cricket.
