Todd highlighted the emotional and psychological difficulties they face upon re-entering the world, stating, “Life is rougher than prison life.” He and Julie reflected on their time behind bars, where they felt a lack of control over their circumstances, contrasting it with the challenges of transitioning back to independence. Julie mentioned the emotional toll of being away from their children—Savannah, Grayson, Chase, and Chloe—stating that as time passes, it becomes an easier routine to adapt to, yet it doesn’t diminish the longing to be with them.
Julie appreciated their unconditional pardon, allowing them to avoid living in a halfway house or checking in with a probation officer. This freedom has thrust them back into real-world challenges without the structured guidance they had while incarcerated.
The couple’s release follows a tumultuous legal battle that resulted in charges of bank and wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy. Initially sentenced to 19 years in prison, they received a reduced sentence prior to their pardons.
