From MoviePass to New Ventures: Hamet Watt’s Next Big Bet

Hamet Watt, co-founder of MoviePass, is moving on from the company’s dramatic collapse to focus on a new venture studio aimed at supporting and funding startups. Watt has been working on Share Ventures, which has successfully raised nearly $20 million in funding from investors including Alphabet and Amazon.

The new venture is centered on startups in the future of work and longevity sectors. Watt believes that the current landscape of venture capital, influenced by the rise of AI and high-interest rates, is conducive to a unique investment model. Share Ventures plans to develop its own software and complex language models to automate internal operations.

Watt emphasized that with less capital, early signals around opportunities can be identified more effectively, enabling them to build companies from the ground up using advanced tools. He noted the trend among various venture firms to invest in new technologies without fully integrating or utilizing them in their processes.

His interest in health and longevity stems from a personal loss; he lost his mother at the age of 25, which deeply impacted his perspective on mortality. Reflecting on his experiences with MoviePass, which he detailed in the documentary “MoviePass, MovieCrash,” Watt expressed a desire to innovate despite past failures. He is determined to explore new ventures with the understanding that both success and failure are part of the journey.
