The former standout pitcher from St. John’s High School has officially joined the Tampa Bay Rays’ active roster, just in time for their game at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.
Though Seymour did not make an appearance in the game against Miami, the Rays will be traveling to Boston for a three-game series starting Monday, which could present an opportunity for him to make his debut.
Seymour, 26, has become a local favorite, praised by his former high school coach Charlie Eppinger as “a great kid from such a great family.” He has drawn admiration not only for his skill on the field but also for his character off of it. This season, he has distinguished himself in the International League, leading with 84 strikeouts and maintaining an impressive 2.95 ERA across 61 innings.
