Twenty-three-year-old Sitiveni Konataci is on a determined path to make his mark in the world of para-athletics, specifically in shot put. The former Tailevu North student made waves in his international debut for Fiji at the 2024 Oceania Games, where he not only competed but also secured a bronze medal in an impressive showing.
Living with a disability has not dampened Konataci’s spirit; instead, he embraces the belief that with unwavering determination and focus, anything can be achieved. His journey back into sports was particularly challenging, stemming from a serious leg injury he sustained during a rugby match in primary school. He candidly shared that the injury did not heal properly, significantly impacting his life and athletic ambitions. However, Konataci views his experiences as a powerful source of inspiration for others facing similar challenges.
“I got injured way back in primary school while playing rugby at home and broke my leg. It didn’t heal properly, so it really affected me,” he reflected. “To everyone out there who has suffered similar injuries and finds it hard to get back out there, I want to reassure you that anything is possible and God has a plan for you.”
Now, with renewed focus and ambition, Konataci is aiming to represent Fiji at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland later this year. His story is one of resilience, demonstrating that setbacks can pave the way for incredible comebacks and that perseverance can ultimately lead to success. His journey instills hope not only within the sporting community but also among those facing personal struggles.
