Pedro Ivan Grijalva Soto, a 26-year-old from Hermosillo, has captured the essence of Michael Jackson through his YouTube channel, Voice Of Pop. This channel is the only one in the city dedicated exclusively to exploring the life and legacy of the iconic pop artist.
Pedro’s fascination with Michael Jackson began after his passing, leading him to delve into Jackson’s music, history, and accomplishments. His admiration has influenced various artistic disciplines, including cinematography, performing arts, music, photography, and drawing, which he has skillfully combined. Having studied Graphic Design at the University of Sonora, Pedro chose to focus his channel on what he knows and loves most: Michael Jackson.
The primary goal of Voice Of Pop is to provide a documentary-style perspective on the artist, examining his life from a more human angle.
“My vision was primarily to discuss Michael Jackson from a more human perspective, trying to truly understand his story, not just talking about the artist or the man who broke all records, but from the standpoint of what he lived through and felt,” Pedro explained.
The channel has opened several opportunities for Pedro. He traveled to Los Angeles to visit iconic places such as Jackson’s star on the Walk of Fame and Forest Lawn Cemetery, where the singer is buried. During his visit to Forest Lawn, Pedro brought letters from his subscribers around the globe, including Argentina, Spain, Peru, Colombia, Italy, and the United States, and placed them at the site in a symbolic act of global connection with Jackson’s legacy.
In December 2023, Pedro had the privilege of meeting Don Boyette, Michael Jackson’s bassist, and Darryl Phinnessee, the artist’s backing vocalist. He also had the chance to meet twice with Jackson’s brothers, known as The Jackson Five. His admiration for the dancer transcends music, as he highlights the reinvention of styles and the modernization of movements that continue to be emulated. For this reason, he was in charge of editing the 245th edition of Vía Activa, where he put on a tribute show to Michael Jackson.
Pedro has also noted a rise in interest in Michael Jackson in Hermosillo, thanks to his content.
“What I hope for over the years, with what I’ve been doing on my channel and what the fan community in this region grows into, is more events or dance activities, so that people from Hermosillo or Sonora become familiar with the content I create on my platforms,” Pedro commented.
