As the Raven Football team prepares for its opening game in the 2024 NAIA national tournament playoffs this weekend, defensive end Tai Rutledge is not only focused on the field but also advancing his academic career through a finance internship.
Rutledge is a senior at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, originally from Los Angeles, and is majoring in finance and economics. He reflected on how his experience in football has imparted essential life lessons that extend beyond athletics. “Playing football here has taught me what it takes to be successful on and off the field by emphasizing values like hard work, accountability, and perseverance,” he stated. He believes these principles have greatly influenced his involvement in campus activities and his internship.
In his role as a procurement analyst intern for C.H. Robinson, Rutledge is gaining valuable experience that complements his studies. Additionally, he serves as the Chief Financial Officer of the Student International Business Council (SIBC) at Benedictine College and acts as a peer mentor for freshmen football players, helping them adjust to college life.
After transferring to Benedictine at the start of his sophomore year, Rutledge faced some challenges, but he quickly recognized the college as his new home. “The second I stepped foot on this campus, I knew Benedictine was home,” he commented. He has taken pride in guiding younger teammates, reminiscing on his own transition and helping them navigate their initial collegiate experiences.
