At just 22 years old, Aisea Naboko from Burenitu Village in Ra has realized his childhood ambition of becoming a flight attendant. Now in his third year with an airline, Naboko plays a vital role in connecting travelers across the Pacific and beyond, all while proudly representing his roots with every journey. However, his ascent into the aviation field has not come without its challenges.
Growing up in rural Fiji, Naboko’s journey has been characterized by determination and the steadfast support of his family. He initially enrolled in a hospitality and tourism program at Fiji National University (FNU) but chose to take a break to seek financial security. “Education is still part of my plan, but I want to be financially ready before I go back to school,” he shared, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to his future.
His tenure in the airline industry has imparted key skills such as discipline, teamwork, and professionalism, all essential not only for customer service but for personal growth. Naboko fondly recalls his first flight, describing the mix of excitement and nerves that solidified his sense of belonging in this demanding but rewarding role.
His job has enabled him to explore exciting destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Yet, Naboko believes the most fulfilling aspect of his work is the connections he creates with passengers from diverse backgrounds. “Every flight brings new faces and new stories… it makes you appreciate how big the world is,” he remarked.
Despite his travels, Naboko remains grounded in his Fijian heritage, often reflecting on his upbringing in Ra and the values instilled in him by his family—from his parents to his four siblings. Their unwavering belief in him has been a powerful motivational force throughout his career thus far.
Outside of his professional commitments, Naboko cherishes the time spent with family and friends, deriving joy from simple outings to the coast or relaxing in his village. He understands that being a flight attendant entails dedication, handling diverse passengers, and managing different time zones, yet he embraces the unpredictability that each day brings.
Through his role, Naboko has gained a deeper appreciation of the impact of service, recognizing that small gestures can significantly resonate with others. He is dedicated to showcasing the Fijian spirit during his travels and aspires to motivate young Fijians, particularly those hailing from rural backgrounds, to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
“I want people from villages like mine to know that their dreams are valid. If you work hard, stay respectful, and believe in yourself, you can go far in life,” he affirmed, delivering a hopeful and inspiring message to future generations. For Aisea Naboko, the sky represents not just a career but the starting point of an adventurous journey fueled by dreams that soar high above the clouds.
