At a recent information session organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Suva, Soko shared his educational journey, highlighting how his time in Indonesia—a country praised for its rich diversity and innovative spirit—has reshaped his worldview. He described Indonesia not merely as a study destination but as a vibrant environment for personal growth. “Indonesia is not just a place to study; it is a place to grow,” he emphasized, encouraging prospective students to embrace the challenges that come with adapting to new cultures.
Soko reflected on the friendships he formed, the language skills he acquired, and the broader regional view he developed during his studies. While he acknowledged the initial challenges posed by a different education system, he recognized that these experiences cultivated resilience and independence within him.
In his current role, Soko is dedicated to mentoring students and reinforcing the alumni network. His leadership within the Indonesian Scholarships Fiji Alumni has fostered connections between past scholars, promoting cultural exchange, and offering guidance to new applicants. He believes that the future development of Fiji hinges on graduates who comprehend Asia’s evolving economic and technological landscapes.
“Our region is interconnected,” he noted, asserting that knowledge and relationships formed abroad can substantially benefit Fiji’s progress. Soko acknowledges the obstacles that come with international study but views these experiences as vital for personal development and fostering independence among young individuals. His closing message to students is one of encouragement: “Step beyond your comfort zone and return to Fiji ready to serve.”
Soko’s journey stands as a beacon of hope, illustrating how international study opportunities can transform lives and strengthen community ties, ultimately enhancing Fiji’s prospects for the future. Through his efforts, he is paving the way for the next generation of leaders, ensuring that the lessons learned abroad are utilized for the betterment of Fiji as a whole.
