Frito-Lay has announced a limited recall of its Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to the potential presence of undeclared milk, a significant allergen. This recall affects 13-ounce bags of the popular snack, with approximately 6,344 bags being pulled from distribution in Oregon and Washington.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the recall notice on December 18 after Frito-Lay received a report from a consumer. Fortunately, no allergic reactions have been reported so far. The affected bags, which could have been purchased starting November 3, 2024, should be checked for a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of “11 FEB 2025” and specific manufacturing codes of either 6462307xx or 6463307xx.

Consumers with milk allergies are advised to discard any bags that match these criteria to avoid the risk of a serious allergic reaction. Frito-Lay has emphasized that this recall only pertains to Lay’s Classic Potato Chips, and no other flavors or varieties have been implicated.

This alert highlights the importance of food safety and transparency in labeling, reinforcing the need for vigilance from both consumers and manufacturers when it comes to food allergen declarations.

Overall, it is reassuring that Frito-Lay acted quickly to address this issue and has communicated directly with consumers about the recall. The company’s proactive approach can help prevent potential allergic reactions and safeguard public health.
