The University of Wisconsin is set to introduce quarterback Carter Smith, a true freshman and former Gatorade Florida Player of the Year, as they prepare to face No. 2 Indiana on Saturday. Smith steps in for sophomore Danny O’Neil, who sustained a right leg injury during the first quarter of last week’s narrow 13-10 victory against then-No. 23 Washington. O’Neil, who was carted off after suffering the injury on a 21-yard keeper, was visibly upset as he was taken to the locker room and did not return to the game.
In his debut, Smith completed 3 of 12 passes for just 8 yards but demonstrated his athleticism by rushing for 47 yards and scoring a touchdown.
