Fresh Talent Shines: UF’s Jaela Auguste Earns SEC Freshman of the Year

Jaela Auguste has concluded an outstanding freshman volleyball season at the University of Florida, highlighted by receiving the SEC Freshman of the Year award. Additionally, she was honored with spots on the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Auguste achieved remarkable stats, placing 14th nationally and seventh in the SEC for hitting percentage. Her recognition makes her the first Gator to earn the Freshman of the Year title since Alexis Stucky in 2022.

A native of Spring, Texas, Auguste has made her mark by starting in 26 out of 28 matches, demonstrating her skill by leading the Gators in blocks during 15 of those games. She showcased her talent recently by being named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week on November 11 after stellar performances in victories over Auburn and Alabama, where she amassed seven kills against the Tigers and 11 against the Crimson Tide.

Throughout the season, Auguste consistently delivered impressive performances, including five matches with double-digit kills and a personal best of 12 kills against Ohio State. She also tied her career-high with seven blocks in a matchup against Mississippi State. In her debut match against Colorado State on August 30, she contributed four kills and five blocks, setting the tone for an exciting season.

Alongside Auguste, other Gators also received notable SEC honors. Sophomore outside hitter Kennedy Martin was named to the All-SEC First Team, fifth-year libero Elli McKissock secured a spot on the All-SEC Second Team, and freshman Taylor Parks was selected for the SEC All-Freshman Team.

This season not only highlights Auguste’s talent but also signifies a bright future for the Gators volleyball program, as they continue to develop young talent and build towards greater achievements.
