Fresh Perspectives Join Southeast College Board

Southeast College has announced the addition of three new members to its board, enhancing its representation with local community figures. Sheena Onrait, Vice President of Communications and Strategic Enrollment, expressed enthusiasm about the new board members.

“We’re really excited to welcome Jeff St. Onge, a longtime resident of the rural Moosomin area, Shirley Blyth from the Whitewood area, and Rob Stephanson, who comes from Weyburn,” Onrait stated.

Onrait emphasized the diverse range of experiences these new members bring to the board. Jeff St. Onge is a recently retired teacher with a long career in education, while Shirley Blyth has extensive experience in healthcare, having worked in various nursing and leadership positions. Rob Stephanson, also retired, previously served as a partner at Doane Grant Thornton in Weyburn, bringing valuable accounting expertise.

Following an orientation session later this month, the new members will participate in their first board meeting shortly thereafter. “The next day is when these three will join their very first board meeting,” explained Onrait. She expressed eagerness to integrate the newcomers and fortify the board’s dynamics, fostering a strong relationship between the college and its governing body.

Onrait noted the importance of having board members from different backgrounds to address various community needs. Traditionally, the board has included professionals such as lawyers, entrepreneurs, and those with experience in healthcare and education, resulting in a well-rounded and diverse group. Efforts continue to ensure representation from Indigenous communities as well.

With these additions, Southeast College aims to build on its successful initiatives, looking forward to a productive future alongside a fully equipped board. This positive development underscores the college’s commitment to engaging with the community and promoting varied perspectives in its decision-making processes.
