Allegedly siphoning off $2.5 million over a seven-year period, Jakubowski is accused of various fraudulent activities, including stealing cash tips and issuing unauthorized checks to herself from the restaurant’s bank account.
According to prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Jakubowski’s scheme provided her with a comfortable lifestyle, allowing her to purchase a home valued at over $100,000 in Pennsylvania and cover personal expenses, including her husband’s internet bills. Assistant District Attorney Stephen MacArthur detailed in court how Jakubowski managed to secretly cash 88 checks and money orders in a span of just four days, all aimed at funding her fraudulent lifestyle.
During her first court appearance, Jakubowski pleaded not guilty to charges of grand larceny and falsifying business records. She could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on the most serious count. Judge Althea Drysdale released her under supervision, clearly indicating that she must attend all required court appearances.
This incident has raised concerns for Fresco by Scotto, which recently renewed its lease at 485 Madison Ave. The establishment, which has been serving patrons since its opening in 1993, describes itself as an embodiment of true Italian hospitality.
