Free School to Serve 57 Nasinu Settlements, Fiji

A new school aimed at assisting underprivileged children is set to be constructed in Nadawa, Nasinu by the Inner City Mission for Children. Spanning over two acres, the project will finally commence after three years of land negotiations and will cost an estimated $2 million. Funding will be sourced from global partnerships and contributions from church members.

Navi Tuivuniwai, the Project Director, revealed that this initiative targets children hailing from 57 settlements within the Nasinu municipality who face difficulties in accessing education due to financial constraints. Despite existing governmental support, some families still struggle to send their children to school, thus the school will focus on bridging these gaps.

The school will provide a comprehensive range of services absolutely free, including tuition, uniforms, meals, and transport. Moreover, it will integrate faith-based values to support and uplift families both spiritually and socially.

Construction of the school is scheduled for completion within a year, with an official opening ceremony planned for next September.

The development aligns with a broader movement in the region focusing on educational expansions and improvements, driven by both local and international collaborations. Similar initiatives have been previously documented, such as the Tappoo Group’s contributions towards kindergarten developments and technology upgrades in Nasinu, reflecting a commitment to nurturing educational growth in underserved areas. This indicates a substantial and positive trend towards improving access and quality of education in Fiji, especially for communities at risk.
