Badminton Fiji’s secretary, Abel Caine, is urging the Fijian community in Auckland to rally behind Fiji’s men’s and women’s teams during the upcoming Oceania Championships. He emphasizes the importance of strong local support as badminton continues to grow as a sport within Fiji.
Caine points out that the championship offers free entry, presenting a unique opportunity for supporters to witness the competition firsthand and provide encouragement to the athletes. “I’m calling on all Fijians in Auckland; the Oceania is free of cost. Almost never in the past have our Fiji teams experienced the support of the Fijian crowd,” he said.
The tournament will take place at the North Harbor Badminton Centre in Auckland, where Fiji will be represented by four female and six male competitors. This event marks an essential occasion for promoting the sport within the Fijian community and strengthening national pride through athletic achievement. With community backing, there is hope that these athletes will shine on the international stage, showcasing their skills and determination in a developing sport.
