The tornado impacted about 15 to 20 homes primarily in the vicinity of Masonic and Utica Road and Garfield Road near General Street. Residents witnessed the tornado’s destructive power, with one eyewitness, Cody Potyczka, describing how a carport was lifted into the air, prompting him and others to seek shelter in basements.
Some residents, including Gaetano Rizzo, experienced severe damage; a tree fell and destroyed his sunroom. He faced delays in repairs due to a downed power line that remained tangled in the debris. Crews from DTE Energy have been working diligently to restore electricity, with reports of unusual debris, such as trampolines caught in power lines.
Many neighborhoods were left without power following the storm, and some residents like David Selbmann realized personal repairs on their homes were necessary before their electricity could be restored. Despite facing challenges, Selbmann commented on the fortunate circumstances for himself compared to others who suffered more significant damage.
As cleanup efforts were underway, roofing companies like Premier Roofing and Renovations rushed to assist homeowners, with one worker, David Hall, noting the urgency to secure properties ahead of more anticipated rain. Emergency services were also on hand to respond to various related incidents, including a water rescue in Clinton Township.
