The beginning of Memorial Day weekend marked a notably lower viewership across all major news networks compared to a typical Friday. Despite this decline, Fox News retained its position as the most-watched news network, both in total viewership and among the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic. The show “The Five” significantly contributed to Fox’s dominance.

In total viewership for the day, Fox News garnered 1.610 million viewers, followed by MSNBC with 543, and CNN trailing with 326. Primetime numbers mirrored this trend, with Fox attracting 2.356 million viewers, MSNBC at 659, and CNN at 368.

In the 25-54 demographic, which is particularly important for advertisers, Fox News had a commanding lead with 179 thousand viewers throughout the day, compared to CNN’s 54 thousand and MSNBC’s 43 thousand. During primetime, Fox again led with 217 thousand viewers in this age group, surpassing CNN’s 46 thousand and MSNBC’s 45 thousand.

Among the individual programs, “The Five” topped the charts at 321 thousand viewers, while other notable shows included Sean Hannity and Greg Gutfeld, both of whom attracted substantial audiences.

This viewership trend illustrates the competitive landscape of cable news, especially during holiday weekends when audience attention may waver. Despite the overall decrease, Fox News’s successful shows and continued lead highlight the network’s strong viewer loyalty.

As the landscape of media consumption continues to evolve, it will be interesting to observe how networks adapt their strategies to engage viewers, particularly during holiday periods which can impact ratings. Overall, there’s a sense of resilience within Fox News, showcasing its ability to maintain a strong viewership base even amid shifts in viewer habits.
