Former NHL Player’s Brawl at Golf Course Sparks Investigation

A viral video showing former NHL player Nick Tarnasky in a brawl at a Canadian golf course has prompted an investigation by his employer, Red Deer Minor Hockey, where he serves as a head coach.

The incident occurred at the Alberta Springs Golf Resort in Red Deer, Alberta, where a confrontation reportedly escalated. In the video, Tarnasky can be seen interacting with another man, culminating in a physical struggle that results in Tarnasky shoving his opponent into a pond. As the man resurfaces, Tarnasky is heard shouting, “Enough, enough, get out!” before shoving him down again. Fortunately, the man appeared to walk away without serious injuries.

Jason Stephens, the General Manager of Red Deer Minor Hockey, confirmed Tarnasky’s involvement and stated that both local authorities and the organization are investigating the incident. The RCMP received reports of a disturbance involving intoxication but noted that by the time officers arrived, the individuals involved had already left the scene.

Tarnasky, who played six seasons in the NHL with teams including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and Florida Panthers, has a history of over 245 games in the league and considerable penalty minutes. After transitioning to coaching, he was recently announced as the head coach for the U17 AAA team for the upcoming 2025-2026 season.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by public figures, especially those in coaching positions, and the importance of sportsmanship and conflict resolution skills, particularly for mentor figures in youth sports. The ongoing investigation may serve as a reminder for athletes and coaches about their responsibilities both on and off the field.
