The confrontation reportedly started when Sanchez expressed his frustration over the elderly man’s work box truck parked at a loading dock while collecting used cooking oil. Court documents reveal that Sanchez was stabbed shortly after midnight on October 4 in an alley near Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery. He sustained serious stab wounds to his upper torso and was initially in critical condition before being upgraded to stable status later that day.
The elderly man, who sustained a laceration to his left cheek, claimed self-defense during the encounter. He was treated at Methodist Hospital and later released. Surveillance footage and witness accounts have provided insight into the chaotic events. A witness parked nearby initially thought the two men were friends due to their interaction, but quickly realized the situation escalated when both individuals began recording each other with their cellphones.
Detective Joshua Slayton noted that the witness observed the altercation as it unfolded, with Sanchez reportedly pursuing the truck driver and pushing him against a wall. After the elderly man used pepper spray in an attempt to defend himself, he resorted to a knife, striking Sanchez multiple times as the former athlete approached aggressively. The police found Sanchez shortly afterward at a nearby bar, visibly shaken.
