Michael Tait, the former lead singer of the renowned Christian rock band Newsboys, is currently under serious accusations of sexual assault, grooming, and drug abuse, with incidents dating back as far as two decades. Reports, including details from a Christian media outlet, outline a troubling narrative of Tait, who was with the band for 16 years until his departure in January 2024.

In a heartfelt statement posted on Instagram, the remaining members of Newsboys—Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, and Adam Agee—expressed their devastation upon learning about the allegations. They emphasized their support for the victims and condemned any form of sexual assault. The band’s message highlighted their role as fathers and husbands, expressing horror and heartbreak over the claims against their former colleague.

Tait reportedly acknowledged having “lived a double life” prior to his departure, further shocking the band. They stated, “We never imagined that it could be this bad,” reflecting their disbelief and concern for those affected.

The circumstances surrounding Tait’s exit from the band were complicated by a viral TikTok video that suggested he was gay; this video was later removed for violating platform policies. Tait chose not to address the video directly but expressed in January that leaving the band after years of touring was a heartfelt decision made through prayer and reflection.

Also included in the investigative report are disturbing allegations from three men who met Tait while he was touring. These individuals, who were all 22 at the time of their encounters, narrated experiences of being offered alcohol and waking up to inappropriate touching after socializing with Tait. Another man reported being invited to Tait’s tour bus, where he faced non-consensual advances.

Throughout their career, Newsboys has achieved considerable acclaim, with four Grammy nominations and multiple Dove Awards. They are known for their impactful ministry through music, including their appearance in the film “God’s Not Dead,” which showcased their influence in the Christian music landscape.

The unfolding situation serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing allegations of misconduct and supporting victims who come forward. It highlights a broader societal issue and the need for organizations to foster safe environments for all individuals.
