Former Exeter star Joey Schlaffer Departs Penn State Roster

Joey Schlaffer, a former standout at Exeter High School, has departed from the Penn State football roster, as reported by Blue-White Illustrated. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end was in his third year with the Nittany Lions and still has two years of eligibility remaining.

During his brief time in college football, Schlaffer made a notable contribution by catching a 19-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Grunkemeyer in a game against Villanova this past September, marking the only reception of his college career thus far. This season, he participated in three games, following four appearances in the previous season. However, Schlaffer was absent from the travel roster for the last two critical games against Ohio State and Iowa.

In high school, Schlaffer had an impressive career, leading Exeter to a remarkable 12-1 record in his senior year. He recorded 38 receptions for 879 yards and nine touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 246 yards and three touchdowns. A four-year starter, he established Berks County career records for both receiving yards, totaling 2,493, and receiving touchdowns, with 28.

While the recent news may seem disappointing for his fans and supporters, Schlaffer’s talent and potential remain evident, and he could still have opportunities ahead as he seeks to continue his football journey elsewhere.
