Rudi Johnson, a former Auburn and NFL running back, has passed away at the age of 45. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed. Johnson’s NFL career spanned eight seasons from 2001 to 2008, predominantly with the Cincinnati Bengals, before concluding with the Detroit Lions. During his tenure, he was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2004. He accumulated impressive career stats, including 5,979 rushing yards, 49 rushing touchdowns, and an average of 3.9 yards per carry. Additionally, he had 113 receptions for 676 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.

Hailing from Virginia, Johnson’s collegiate journey began at Butler Community College before he became a standout player at Auburn University in 2000. His stellar performance at Auburn earned him the title of SEC Player of the Year and recognition as a First-Team All-SEC player. This success paved the way for his selection in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft.

Johnson’s peak professional years were from 2004 to 2006 when he consistently exceeded 1,300 rushing yards and scored 12 touchdowns each season. In a notable playoff appearance in 2005, he managed 56 yards and a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Beyond his football career, Johnson made significant contributions through charitable work. In 2005, he founded the Rudi Johnson Foundation, dedicated to assisting families and children in achieving self-sufficiency. The foundation’s impact extended to various community-driven initiatives, including funding the first football team at Clark Montessori High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
