Two Chinese nationals, Xu Qian and Wang An, have been arrested in Fiji and charged with possessing 805.657 grams of methamphetamine. The drugs were allegedly kept in 20 zip lock bags at an Airbnb in Martintar, Nadi. Xu and Wang entered Fiji on tourist visas, and their case was presented at the Nadi Magistrate’s Court. Their lawyer, Rajshneel Chand, requested a Chinese translator for the proceedings as his clients do not speak English. Magistrate Semi Babitu acknowledged the need for a translator. The prosecution intends to escalate the case to the High Court, classifying it as a Category 4 offense, which could result in a 15 to 20-year prison sentence. The case has been adjourned until September 29, and the pair will remain in police custody.
