Ford Motor Company has announced a recall involving 850,318 vehicles in the United States due to concerns over potential low-pressure fuel pump failures that could lead to engine stalling. This announcement was made by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to NHTSA, a malfunctioning fuel pump may restrict fuel flow from the tank to the engine, increasing the risk of a crash if the engine stalls unexpectedly. The agency has received six consumer complaints relating to loss of power attributed to fuel pump issues.
Drivers should be cautious for warning signs that the fuel pump could be failing, which might include poor engine performance characterized by misfiring, rough running, decreased power, or an illuminated check engine light. The frequency of these failures appears to increase particularly when fuel levels are low or under high-temperature conditions.
The models affected by this recall include certain versions of the Lincoln Aviator, Ford F-150 trucks, and Mustang vehicles, among others. NHTSA estimates that around 10% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect. Ford is currently in the process of developing a solution to address the issue.
This proactive measure emphasizes Ford’s commitment to vehicle safety and the importance of addressing potential defects before they lead to more serious incidents. Vehicle owners are encouraged to stay informed about any updates related to remedies for this issue.
