Police have released surveillance footage and images of the suspect involved in the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd outside a Manhattan restaurant over the weekend. The 29-year-old athlete is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, where a bullet has been lodged in his lung.
Boyd was shot in the abdomen during what is reported to be a dispute outside Sei Less restaurant in Midtown around 2 a.m. on Sunday. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital and remains in critical condition as of Monday. However, officials have expressed optimism regarding his recovery, indicating that they believe Boyd is likely to survive his injuries.
According to authorities, the gunman fled the scene on West 38th Street and was last seen wearing a black hat, black sweatshirt, black pants, and multi-colored sneakers. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
In response to the shooting, the Jets released a brief statement acknowledging the situation involving Boyd, emphasizing that they would not be providing further comment at this time.
While details regarding the altercation leading up to the shooting are still unclear, it’s important to note that Boyd has not yet played this season due to an injured reserve designation he received on August 18 following shoulder surgery. He joined the Jets as a free agent in March, looking to contribute to a newly revamped special teams unit under coach Aaron Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Boyd’s injury occurred during training camp on August 2, necessitating his removal from practice.
Previously recognized as a standout player in special teams, Boyd had a notable career with the Houston Texans, including a memorable moment during a playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year.
Teammates of Boyd have taken to social media to express their support and request prayers for his recovery. Linebacker Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, among others, have sent heartfelt messages, asking for divine guidance and healing for their friend and teammate.
The Jets organization and fans alike continue to rally around Boyd during this challenging time, showcasing a collective hope for his swift recovery and return to health.
