FNU Careers Fair Returns in Fiji, Bridging Students with Employers

The Fiji National University (FNU) has successfully revived its Careers Fair after a seven-year hiatus, marking a significant return to its commitment to preparing students for the workforce. The event, held at the Nasinu Campus, took place for the first time since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring the university’s dedication to fostering strong relationships with industry partners and employers.

During the event, Director of Academic Learning and Teaching, Rusiate Vakaloloma, emphasized the fair as a crucial platform for students transitioning from university to the workforce. He acknowledged the vital support from industry partners and employers, stating that their participation highlights FNU’s robust industry connections and shared vision for national development.

The 2025 Careers Fair provided students with opportunities to meet potential employers, explore job openings, and gain insights into emerging industry trends and requirements. This aligns with broader initiatives in Fiji that focus on bridging the gap between education and employment, as seen in similar events held in Suva. Assistant Minister Iliesa Vanawalu has noted the importance of such fairs in creating meaningful discussions between parents and children regarding career aspirations and helping students gain valuable real-world experience.

As educational initiatives increasingly focus on aligning with industry needs, events like FNU’s Careers Fair represent a hopeful step toward empowering youth in Fiji. By providing a platform for career exploration, these fairs not only enhance students’ employability skills but also foster community engagement and collaboration between educational institutions and industries.

The revival of the Careers Fair at FNU stands as a testament to the university’s proactive approach in ensuring that the next generation is equipped to navigate the challenges of today’s job market, paving the way for a more prepared and skilled workforce. This rekindled event symbolizes optimism for the future of students and the potential for their contributions to the economy and society.
