Nanumiau emerged victorious in the FMF Navosa Netball Tournament, clinching the championship title by defeating Qwalimavua 11–8 in a tightly contested final at Vatureba Ground. The tournament, which spanned two days, showcased intense competition and considerable skill, culminating in a thrilling matchup that captivated spectators.

During the semi-finals, Nanumiau secured their place in the final after narrowly overcoming Henibua with a score of 10–8. Meanwhile, Qwalimavua battled through their semi-final, achieving a hard-fought victory against Heni Ivi with a score of 9–7.

The tournament, coordinated by Judy Kumar, saw participation from 20 teams, supported by FMF Navosa Netball and Navosa Rugby. Kumar expressed her satisfaction with the event’s success, highlighting the high level of competition that characterized the games. “It was an exciting tournament with very competitive netball played throughout,” she remarked.

One of the standout performers of the tournament was the legendary player Elenoa Vatureba, whose contributions were pivotal and electrified both fans and fellow competitors alike. In addition to their main cup victory, Nanumiau also received the Best Qualifier 1 award after a closely contested match against the younger Qwalivula 1 team, coached by Sadam Bainivalu.

Nanumiau’s triumph was significantly influenced by the expertise and leadership of former Fiji Pearls squad members Robyn Vula and Chivalele, along with other experienced senior players who played essential roles in guiding the team to their impressive victory. The tournament not only celebrated the talent within the sport but also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among the teams.
